Where to buy Awake Vinga 3:
awake-vinga-3-product

For riders just starting to get into electric foiling and more adroit carvers who also like to hop, the Awake Vinga 3 offers a fun and enjoyable ride they can build their skills with and customize to their liking.

The Vinga 3 is a standout for its ease of assembly–the easiest of all eFoils–and for its large jet engine. That allows for slower speeds while flying, even with the smaller wing. Awake has two sizes to go with the V-3: a cruiser for less experienced riders and a smaller one for more agility and speed.

All in all, it’s one of the most well-built boards (made in Sweden) and one of the more expensive models. The design features that make the experience on and off the water so good, on our opinion, make this eFoil more than worth the price.

Smartest Designed eFoil

Upon first impressions, the Vinga 3 looks nearly identical to Awake’s first eFoil, the smaller, sportier Vinga S. The Vinga 3 is a whole foot longer at 5’6” and has two handles at the sides for easier carrying. The larger size is a factor contributing to its beginner-friendly nature. Its 95-liter volume is very buoyant and provides more stable standing for heavier-set riders.

By comparison, the Lift 3 5’4 board has 88 liters.

Upon take off, the Vinga 3 offers less hydrophilic stickiness that can make similar-sized eFoils struggle to leave the drag of the water—made possible by its double concave under hull design, which allows air to find space underneath the board to lift up and out of the water.

It’s powered by a large engine, one of the biggest efoil jets today, that provides enough torque to get the board planing quicker. More on that below.

The Awake Vinga 3 is equipped with a linear jet propulsion system in line with the wing, giving this model a quieter and smooth riding experience than propeller engines. Its linear jet propulsion system is powered by Awake’s Flex Battery, which comes in two sizes and kWh capacity options, standard range (SR) or extended range (XR), and is touted as the safest battery on the market.

One of the best features of the Awake Vinga 3 is its Click-to-Ride system. With no need for screws, cables, or battery hatches, you can quickly and easily get in the water and fly in a matter of minutes. Making this eFoil board a great option for enthusiasts who want to save space when transporting or storing or want an easy and accessible option to get into the sport.

The Awake Vinga 3 is a more expensive eFoil compared to similar brands on the market, coming in at $13,900 for its standard model. The price isn’t as accessible for most people just trying to get into the sport, but its high price does seem worth the cost for the easy assembly and peace of mind that it is a US Coast Guard-approved watercraft.

The Awake Vinga 3’s possibilities are seemingly endless, so let’s dive into more about this eFoil by awake.

Vinga Is The Easiest eFoil

Awake’s efoil is the fastest to assemble thanks to the industry-first Click-to-Ride system. A plug-and-play feature that lets you easily and almost effortlessly attach and detach the battery and the mast from the hull, all with a few quick-release handles located in the hull of the board and on the battery.

With no need to take time to assemble cables, internal cords, and other components with screws, you can be in the water and in action quickly. Like most equipment-heavy activities, we like using less time in prep and more time active.

The aspects that make the Vinga 3 a great option for beginners are its size, buoyancy, and easy learning curve. Measuring a length of 5’6”/ 170 cm, anyone can find their footing and start flying in a matter of minutes. On the Vinga 3, they added two side rail handles for easy reboarding and mounting that give this watercraft a feel that is similar to a SUP in the water. The Vinga 3 also is super buoyant with 95 litres of volume to give riders an easy platform to stand on, take-off and land easier.

Like all eFoil boards, the Vinga 3 comes with a hand controller that has a buoyant wrist strap. The difference with Awake eFoil controllers is the throttle is initiated with a thumb button rather than a finger trigger. This seems awkward at first, but it’s actually easier on the muscles in the hand and offers steady speed control.

It also has a display on the side of the button that keeps riders aware of speed, riding mode, and battery level, as well as safety features like “return-to-shore” mode and complete system monitoring, so you never have to worry.

awake-vinga-3-propeller

The Vinga 3 uses a shielded linear jet propulsion system to safely, efficiently, and quietly give riders one of the best rides on one of the best eFoils. Some eFoil riders look at jet propulsion technology in eFoil boards with skepticism. But to their surprise, it offers a ride that is smooth from the get-go and quieter than most propeller models.

Seated at the furthest point down and behind the mast, which has a height of 70 cm / 27.5”, you get to take advantage of the full length of the mast and feel less vibration when reaching higher speeds or rougher water conditions.

To power its shielded linear jet engine, the Awake Vinga 3 has a 4-layer safety-protected Flex battery that is available in two range options, standard range (SR) and extended range (XR). Riders can expect around an hour to an hour and twenty minutes of ride time with the standard range battery and about an hour and a half to two hours with the extended range battery, depending on ride mode and the weight of the rider.

What makes this battery even more appealing is how it becomes part of the board once secured, meaning there is no hatch to worry about. The Awake Flex batteries are among the safest in the industry, thanks to the 4-layer safety protection, self-contained coolant technology, and enclosed connectors.

On the Vinga 3, there are three driving options, ECO, Sport, and Extreme. So whether you’re a beginner just learning to stand up or an expert who is ready to carve through waves, you can adjust the battery settings to fit each person’s riding style. Adjusting the modes involves pairing the system with a mobile app that quickly gives you all the specs of your battery and riding modes.

Since Awake made its entrance into the electric watersport world with electric surfboards, they have made its Flex Batteries interchangeable across all of its available models. That means if you have an Awake RAVIK or Vinga S, you can use the same battery across each different model. A pretty neat and efficient feature, especially if you already own an Awake product.

Range of High-Performance Ride Modes

Even though the Awake Vinga 3 is a larger eFoil board, it still offers riders plenty of riding options and customization. With its three power modes, you can pick how aggressive or smooth your throttle is, and with different wings to choose from, you can both glide over the water with superior stability–the bigger Powder Wing, ideal for beginners–or carve turns with speed–the smaller wing. Eco and Sport modes are best for beginners depending on the rider’s weight, and Extreme is for more practiced riders.

Like other brands of eFoils, the Awake has a few different options for wings. For an ultra-stable, easy cruising experience Awake’s Powder Wing 1800 is great to get started with. To still have a stable ride but with a more dynamic feel, the Powder Wing 1400 is perfect.

And for more playful riding that’s still smooth, the Fluid Wing 1300 can give a flexible riding experience. Finally, the Fluid Wing 1000 offers the most aggressive and responsive riding style for experienced riders.

Owning different wing sizes means being able to offer an experience to riders with different profiles.

awake-vinga-3-side-view

As far as power packs go, the Awake Flex SR and XR batteries both offer the same safety measures but with a slight difference in ride time, kiloWatt hours, weight, and price. The SR or standard range has a weight of 18 kg / 40 lbs, 1.9 kWh, and up to 80 minutes of ride time. While the XR or extended range battery weighs in at about 22 kg / 48 lbs and gives riders around 90 – 120 minutes of fly time in the water, depending on weight and average speed.

An eFoil Built for Safety

The US Coast Guard Approves the Vinga 3 and S. There may not be many laws or regulations in place around the use of eFoils or electric surfboards, but the USCG has given the Awake Vinga 3 its seal of approval. From its soft side rails that give some cushion when falling to the shielded linear jet propulsion system, the Vinga 3 meets every mark in safety.

Magnetic Power Key Leash

From the top to the bottom, the Awake Vinga 3 features design elements and functions that were built around being a safe and simple eFoil for all riders. One obvious safety feature that is similar to most jet skis is the Awake Power Leash. A leash that attaches to the rider’s vest and the battery via a circle magnet is able to quickly shut off the engine as soon as the rider is separated from the board.

Protected Jet Propulsion

One possible injury seen amongst eFoilers is skin lacerations from the sharp propellers. To minimize the risk of these injuries occurring, Awake Vinga 3 uses a linear jet propulsion system, similar to jet skis, that is shielded so that no sharp parts are at risk of connecting with you when falling off the board or in transport.

Jet engine types–similar to jet skis aren’t unique to Awake’s efoils. The main efoil brands all have a jet module, sometimes sold as an option. Similar to Aerofoils, however, is that the Vingas were designed with jet propulsion in mind. The large engine, placed further back of the mast, has enough torque to get larger riders up without needing a higher speed setting.

Smooth Sailing Wings

In addition to the engine, the wings that are attached at the base of the mast come in options that have rounded edges, like the Powder Wing 1800 and Powder Wing 1400. The rounded edges give riders worry-free wipe-outs so they can confidently fly over the water.

We’re not sure how much this impacts efficiency in terms of having more resistance than sharper wing points. There’s no noticeable speed impediment, as best we can see, so the safety (and comfort when carrying) benefits are the only takeaway here.

Fully Protected Battery Packs

As mentioned previously, the Awake Flex Battery packs are truly the safest power packs in the industry. Having 4-layer sealed protection and a hatch-less design, there is never a need to worry about the condition of your board’s power.

Completed with a safety sensor monitoring system that actively keeps all internal electronics safe from overheating. And if you are curious about battery life while you’re riding, the convenient display on the hand controller gives you simple readouts for battery life, riding mode, and even a vibrating “return-to-shore” mode that activates when the battery is nearing low to get you to shore quickly.

Unique Assembly and Interchangeable Parts

One of the coolest features Awake Vinga boards have is the “Click-to Ride” assembly. The mast that is connected to the jet engine and wing, as well as the hull and battery, all easily and quickly attach and detach from one another.

There are only three separate smaller pieces to handle when storing or transporting instead of one heavy, large, and awkwardly shaped rig. No screws to lose, allen keys that get lost or any rust resulting from wet pieces.

When you’re ready to get into the water, the full assembly comes together fast with a few simple clicks.

Awake Vinga 3 Top Side

Another way Awake makes things easy is with its interchangeable batteries. Across all of Awake’s models, electric surfboards, and eFoils, the Flex battery packs will work. So if you have an Awake Ravik 3 with an XR battery already, for example, you can use the same battery in a new Vinga 3. Pretty cool if you ask us.

Other available accessories are a cushioned rolling transport bag ($590) to store and transport your eFoil wherever you take it safely. As well as extra batteries, battery chargers, hand controllers, and chargers.

Also, if you are looking for more of a connection to the board when riding, you can purchase foot straps that attach easily to the top side of the hull ($360).

eFoil Comparison

So, you might be wondering, how does it compare? Up against other well-known eFoil brands like the series 3 Fliteboard, Lift 4 eFoil, and Audi’s Aerofoil, the Awake Vinga 3 is at the pricier spectrum. But it offers a heap of benefits to justify the price. And, it’s Made in Sweden, which has quality control advantages.

The Fliteboard Series 3 offers a wide range of board sizes, two interchangeable propulsion options, and multiple battery packs. However, the battery packs aren’t compatible with all models, and the average ride time is only around an hour with the standard battery.

awake-vinga-3-comparison

Next to the Vinga 3, it may seem like there are more options with the Fliteboard, but Awake’s plug and play design is really quite amazing and superior to Flite’s set up.

The Vinga 3 may not have as many unique customization options as the Lift 4 eFoil, with over 10 color finishes available to choose from, some with added cost and some free. Or multiple propulsion systems and battery options, but the Awake Vinga makes up for that with high-performance quality and easy and fast assembly.

Worth It?

The total cost of the Awake Vinga 3, with all standard options, comes to $13,900. A figure that is definitely on the higher, if not the highest, end of the eFoil spectrum. Price comparison against the Fliteboard series 3 and the Lift 4 eFoil can range from $9,995-$12,295, depending on which options are chosen. Even though it is more expensive, the ease of assembly and functionality of the Vinga 3 are worth paying for if it’s within your budget.
