The Crestliner 1860 series of Jon boats are manufactured to engage enthusiasts on multiple fronts, with each iteration building on the previous in both specs and features. Versatile is an excellent one-word description for these vessels.
The basic Crestliner 1860 Retriever is a bare-bones Jon boat labeled a fish and duck-hunting vessel. The Retriever Deluxe adds some features but from there, the Retriever Center Console (CC) and Side Console (SC) up the ante with improved accessories to include driver control stations.
In addition to each boat’s included perks, there are even more accessories available from which customers can choose. Whatever set-up an angler or hunter is looking for it seems the Crestliner 1860 has some decent options.

The Flexible and Functional 1860 Retriever
With several distinct models to choose from and the ability to easily upgrade, the 1860 Retriever series may be the only choice for some boaters. Every Retriever is a mod-V constructed of identical materials and includes a built-in stern bench seat, platform bow with pedestal floor base, navigation lights and an 1800 lb. bunk trailer.
Also included on each Crestliner 1860 series boat are a port side 3-rod rack storage and gunnel with lock track system. The gunnel track system permits easily snapping in accessories such as rod- and cup holders.
After that, the Retrievers start to show their differences. The Deluxe model adds electrical for a trolling motor and a switch box, an aerated 16-gallon live well at the bow, 2 bow storage compartments, and most notably, a wing-shaped stern bench. The seat’s wing design allows comfortable access to the tiller.
The Retriever CC includes everything in the Deluxe with a few key alterations. The stern includes an additional storage compartment and cushion for the bench, but it’s the center driver’s console that stands out. The terminal consists of no-feedback steering, a fuel gauge, power outlet, toggle switches, drink holder and 6 fishing rod holders.
Between the Retriever CC and SC there exist a few key differences. The SC includes the stern storage, but exchanges the bench for 2 pedestal seats. Underneath the stern seats there is another storage compartment.
Lastly, the console is shifted to the starboard side of the jon boat and includes everything from the CC with the exception of having 3 rod holders instead of 6.

Performance
The 1860 Retriever Jons can handle between 20 to 90 horsepower, depending on the model. However, it’s important to note the differences between each boat’s maximum and minimum hp.
The basic Retriever boat is rated for between 20-60 hp and the Retriever Deluxe for 20-75 hp, each with a minimum requirement of 20 hp. While those specs agree with each other, the CC and SC differ with ratings of 25-90 hp and a minimum of 60 hp. In short, if you don’t have a large enough motor for the Retriever CC or SC, you won’t reach a plane.
Regarding stability, the 1860 Retriever series is crafted for level floatation with welded seams and a wide bottom to reduce rocking. As is the case with most Jon boats, calmer waters are the baseline and since these boats are intended for more leisurely activities, there are few reasons they wouldn’t succeed.
The Bottom Line
There is a lot being offered in the Crestliner 1860 Retriever series. You’ll have to carefully consider their vessel layout designed around a platform bow, undeniably sturdy construction, built-in modifications and additional accessories from which to choose. It’s very comparable to the SeaArk RX180, for reference.
If it’s anglers and bird-hunters, any one of the Retrievers is probably a good choice. These boats are delivered with everything an outdoors person needs and can easily be improved to address wants.
