An electric surfboard, or jet board, allows you to surf on virtually any body of water, by motorizing your board and jetting you through the water. Like an electric wakeboard, this kind of jet board will provide one of the coolest and most adrenaline-fuelled water sports experiences that can be enjoyed without a boat, wind or waves.
Check also our guide to the best ‘Flying’ eFoils here
These jet boards are propelled like jet skis, and some have bindings or a handle with a cord for better balance and control. We’ve included some gas-powered options here as well as a couple eFoils for comparison’s sake.
We’ll continue to test new boards and add review here as fast as we can.

Where to buy Awake RAVIK 3:
Awakeboards.com
The Ravik 3 is one of the best electric surfboards. All of Awake’s electric boards are designed with performance in mind, but the R3 is designed for the more cruising-oriented rider.
Unlike many esurfs we’ve seen, the jet on the Ravik 3 is not flush in the back of the board. It runs just below the board at the back, providing a more stable, powered ride with fewer jet ski-like hiccups.
Several other distinctive features are found, including the universal battery system–compatible across all Awake’s platforms (including efoils)–distinguishes the Ravik 3 nicely.
Ideal for cruising and some controlled power turning, this is a high-end option for people of means who crave excitement on the water.
A Ravik 3 will cost $12-grand and up for the based battery model, but it’s a guarantee on a company that has gotten stronger as the market has consolidated. A guarantee for support and updates on which that Awake has been good at executing.

Where to buy Jetsurf Cruiser DFI:
Jetsurf
The Cruiser DFI is the latest gasoline-powered motorized surfboard from Jetsurf. The Czech manufacturer has made a name for themselves with both amateurs and pro racers. Powered by two-stroke motors, these boards can blast across the water at between 30 and 40 mph for up to 60 minutes. But, true to their racing heritage, they can also make fun, quick turns.
The Cruiser is designed to be an all-around board, situated between the company’s entry-level offerings like the Sport and Adventure and the pro boards like the Race and Titanium. It’s suited for beginners and intermediate riders and can be used for long-distance cruising while still being fun and agile.
Unlike electric surfboards, the Jetsurf can be checked in most airline luggage. It also has no downtime for recharging the battery, so if your gas tank is empty, simply return to the beach for a top-up and go for another hour. The ability to do this all day long makes the Jetsurf a great option for beach houses or yachts with multiple riders that will keep the board moving all day long.

Where to buy AUDI e Foil eTron by Aerofoil:
Aerofoils
Aerofoils’ Audi eTron is a jet-powered efoil board that immediately makes a case for the best luxury model in terms of aesthetics and cruising performance.
A carbon board with two available sizes (103 liters and 83 liters), Aerofoils has engineered a sleek model that will be very much at home on a private yacht rather than an efoil you’ll see at a rental shop by the beach.
The riding experience on these is fun and deserving of praise. With one of the better UX hand remotes, a good board surface to stand on and a reliable jet engine, Aerofoils boards will, though, appeal mostly to efoilers with a bit of experience.
A relatively high mast with 3 wing configurations adds a bit of versatility to ride style and provides enough room to grow your skills from beginner to master foiler. Expect a ride time of one and a half hours.
Owners might be worried about scratching it. But its elegant, shiny finish belies a robust product that will survive dings and light mishaps.
Check out the in depth review for details and visuals illustrating how good this efoil is.

Beautiful equipment and ultra pleasant experience
-
Amazing surface
-
Steady cruising power when up and flying
-
Adventure board can be used by beginners with some boarding experience
-
Remote has one of the better UX
-
Lightweight board and battery

Only one engine type (no surf-friendly, gliding motor)
-
The shiny, pretty finish will get scratches

Where to buy Brabus x Awake Shadow Jetboard:
Awakeboards.com
Take a motorized surfboard from the leader in electric surfing and tune it up to look and perform like something a superhero rides on and you get the Brabas x Awake Shadow jetboard.
Built on the Ravik 3 platform, a new engine with a Brabus software update unleashes something stunning to behold and thrilling to surf on. It’s almost too overpowering to stay atop with a sick 0-3 second acceleration to 50 km/h.
There are only 77 boards in this limited series edition. We borrowed a demo to see what the Brabus touch can do to an already powerful board.
- Top Speed: 55+
- Accelleration: 0-50 km/h in 4 seconds
- Ride Time: 30-60 minutes
- Dimensions: 179 x 62 x 26 cm

Where to buy Jetsurf Electric:
JETSURF
At first look, the Jetsurf Electric has the same style and design as their well-known gas-powered models. But the big difference lies within the heart of the board, the 3 kWh (59 Ah) lithium-ion battery that’s easily charged in the provided case and gives a cleaner and quieter motorized surfing experience.
The Electric is a great alternative to Jetsurf’s noisy gas-powered surfboards for racing and can be a fun playful experience for people who are familiar with other water sports like surfing and wakeboarding.
Compared to most electric surfboards, this one is unbridled action. It’s a grinder rather than a glider.

Where to buy Lampuga Air:
Lampuga.com
The best thing about the Lampuga Air is that it is inflatable. The immediately creates more safety for younger riders and protection for boats too.
These are very buoyant boards when inflated, which can give first-time riders instant gratification.
The Lampuga Air is the board for riders that don’t want a lot of speed. On the other hand, intermediate riders will be able to use the tethered strap at the front to pull into sharper turns.
We have seen this board demoed to confirm its specs and hope to try it out in the summer 2024.

How We Tested
Over the course of 4 weeks we tested these boards for ride time, speed, and portability. We applied an additional criteria for the overall impression of each platform.
These are explained below the chart that lays out what each brand has claimed about their board’s specs.
A comparative table of the best Jet boards by price, speed, ride time and weight.
Ride Time
This test was easily done: from a full charge, we had at least two riders surfing until their board entered low-battery safe mode. We took the average ride time from these sessions.
We sought to confirm the claimed ride time by the manufacturers. We were able to do this.
Testing for Top Speed
Many manufacturers have developed apps that can download ride info from the board’s onboard system. While we couldn’t reach the top speed because of chop or less-than-ideal conditions, we could confirm the potential for achieving that speed with the ideal rider and conditions.
Why Trust Us
We were 5 riders with different levels of skill and weight.
Some companies lent us demo boards that we had to return following our testing period. We rented a couple of models and sent one of our testers out to Awake’s testing grounds outside Stockholm.
In addition to this, we had Awake and the now-defunct Radinn visit us, each with a couple of their models. This gave us an opportunity to pepper them with questions about the tech driving their products.
Guide to Electric Surfboards
More and more motorized surfboards are entering the market as batteries become more compact and technologies adapt to demand.
There are generally two types of jet boards, an electric surfboard that works like a jet ski, with motors built into the board that push jets of water out the back; and eFoil boards--or hydrofoil boards with a propeller mounted on the mast near the wings.
On the other hand, electric hydrofoil boards like the Lift eFoil provide a smooth ride, flying over the choppy water.
Both types of jet boards can also be used–with varying degrees of performance–to surf like traditional surf boards. Hydrofoil surfing is becoming more popular as videos demonstrating how smooth and chill a session can be–even on waves that don’t curl.
An additional board option, one that’s not as fast or flashy, is an electric SUP board. Motorized paddle boards can help weaker paddlers or provide a leisure experience. But there’s not much surfing involved.
Battery and Charging
Depending on whether or not your electric surfboard will be used from your boat or from the beach, keep in mind charging time and battery time. We’ve been able to use some portable power stations to charge batteries at the beach while we eat lunch in order to get another session out of the day.
Otherwise, any jet board you get a chance to try will be a blast.
Last but not least, remember to rinse off your board of any sand and salt from the ocean. This will definitely help extend the life of this really pricey piece of kit.
Jet Board Accessories
Depending on where you are surfing, the temperature and terrain can vary quite a bit. You might want to check out surfing equipment.

Read full reviews of each board on Boat & Sail Magazine.COM by clicking the links.
Most riders stand up comfortably in one to two rides. A pro tip is to start at a lower power mode and get comfortable with the sensitivity of the throttle. If you’re looking for something that’s easier to ride but is just as thrilling, you might want to consider getting a jet body board.
Make sure to maintain your electric surfboard so that you can get the most out of your purchase. You simply rinse the board and the batteries with fresh water after the ride. For cosmetic reasons, this is advised when riding in salty waters.
Electric surfboards work by using a small battery operated engine to jet the surfboard forward, giving the rider the necessary forward momentum to stand up on the board and cruise over flat water, eliminating the need for waves. Electric surfboards normally generate their propulsion from propellers or jet streams and are powered by rechargeable batteries.
Electric surfboards can be extremely expensive as they are made using high tech parts and are more like jet propelled boats or jet skis than their traditional surfboard counterparts. The technology and materials used in the construction of electric surfboards increases the overall price of the product.

How much did Radinn pay for this review?
Radinn didn’t pay us a cent. They did loan us two boards for review. After some time testing and evaluating them, we had to give them back. We’re always trying to find the critical parts of the gear we test, but we also have fun in the process. The review reflects both of those tendencies. We appreciate the critical–and fair enough–question:)
Can’t be much.
They went bancrupt in 2023.
I live in atlanta Georgia and I was wondering if there are any electric surfboard dealers so I can see a board in person and take a demo?
HI Barry,
Most of the brands ahve a dealer locator on their websites. Go there, and check out if there’s someone close to you.
I am in the US. Where is the best place to purchase a jet board? I have not seen it in retail stores in my area (south central Pennsylvania). It would make a great christmas gift.
Hi Joseph,
Most of the e-surf brands have a dealer locator on there website. Go there, and find a dealer close to where you live.
