Best Beginner Board
Where to buy SiFly E:
sifly-e-foil-product

The creators at SiFly had everyone in mind when they built their largest board, the SiFly E. It is a massive 6’3” super buoyant board that will easily lift riders of all sizes out of the water to foil with ease.

170 liters of buoyancy is a lot for eFoil boards, and it feels like it when you’re in the water with it. We tested it out with several riders, and everyone was able to stand up and fly within the first few minutes. With some being able to stand up without being in motion, it’s that buoyant.

For €8,690 / $9,490, you can learn to fly above the water with the SiFly E. This price is lower than many industry competitors, but we were hoping for a tad better quality and ease of setup for the cost.

Let’s dive into what makes this the easiest eFoil on the market!

The SiFly E (Yellow) ready for action

eFoil with Ease with the SiFly E

We tested out the SiFly E with the shorter 22” mast that makes finding and sustaining flight even easier for beginners. The short mast allows you to foil without getting too high off the water, which can happen fast and unexpectedly if you’re a beginner on a longer mast.

Riding this eFoil is similar to other brands like the Fliteboard Series 3 and Waydoo Flyer One+ but maybe just slightly more stable. When purchasing a SiFly eFoil, you have the option of either the Cruiser 1900 front wing or the smaller Cruiser 1300, the former is one of the widest wings you can find for eFoils, and it is perfect for beginners. The Cruiser 1300 is a bit shorter and can provide a more playful and intuitive eFoil ride.

Another aspect of the SiFly E that’s super helpful for beginners is how quickly and easily you can recover from over-adjustments when foiling. Since it is so buoyant and stable, you can fully submerge the board if you were to touch back down to the water. And unlike other brands, the engine won’t lock up on you, sending you into the water. Making it a great option for rentals and lessons to minimize time resetting after falling and maximize the time riders are standing and flying.

Operating the remote is super simple as well, with a data-filled monochrome display and just four buttons to navigate. It has a finger trigger like most other brands and an attached wrist strap that feels very nice compared to the familiar hand strap that can feel a bit more restrictive. With SiFly’s app, you can pair your board and remote devices, making it easy to monitor the system, choose a ride mode, and set up your safety parameters.

Overall the SiFly E is a solid beginner-friendly board with a more affordable price tag than other brands. However, the lower price does come with some lower quality design elements, which we noticed during setup, mainly with the array of screws that are supplied and the different materials incorporated in the engine and wing area.

System Control and Customization

The remote hand controller is the same across all of SiFly’s eFoil models, with a monochrome display, four easy navigation buttons, a finger trigger, and an attached wrist strap.

We appreciated the wrist strap here compared to other brands like Fliteboard Series 3, which use a hand strap, as we found it a bit more comfortable and less restrictive. Using the remote is super simple, with four buttons used to navigate the display and a finger trigger on the back. It has a two-button unlock for safety and two riding modes, E for easy and D for Dynamic, the latter of which is for more advanced riders.

In addition to the remote’s spec readouts, SiFly also has an app interface that monitors both the remote and the board, and where you can see all of your trip readouts, manage the Safety Power Limit, and set trip time limits for rentals or just to keep things fair between the kids.

Smooth Sailing Ride

Getting into what makes this board fly, the SiFly E has a 58.8V lithium-ion battery that is similar to other eFoil brands and can last for up to 30 km or 2 hours on a full charge. The battery is also compatible across all of SiFly’s eFoil models, so it’s easy to upgrade to a smaller hull for a more playful ride when your skill level increases.

The battery is secured in a standard hatch compartment in the middle of the hull and connects with two cables on either side with a couple of clicks; there are two protective caps over the cable connection sites on the battery that need to be removed before you can connect it to the board.

Once it’s locked and loaded, and you have your remote and board paired via the SiFly app, the board will let you know it’s ready with three quick beeps. Then it’s time to fly!

Getting in the Water

Once you’re in the water, as we mentioned early, it’s very paddleboard-like. Smaller riders will be able to stand up on top of it without having to be moving. Riders will have an opportunity to get comfortable as speed is slowly added to the experience.

And once you’re unlocked, take-off is pretty gradual, especially with the E ride mode engaged, which only allows the rider to adjust their speed with the + and – buttons. Making it easier to focus on finding balance on the board, rather than having to fine-tune the speed with the trigger.

After you’ve found your balance and a good speed, the SiFly E flies without too much aggression. In other words, the weight of the board keeps the tip from flying up and tossing the rider off.

Moving around your stance to find better balance is more forgiving since it is so buoyant and large, and you can recover from touching down to the water after overcorrecting without getting thrown off, most of the time anyway.

Riding the SiFly E

Safe and Secure on the SiFly E

As the SiFly E is so large, it creates a space for riders to feel secure and sure of, especially for those new to balancing on the water. And it being a large board means it is inherently heavy, weighing a total of 75 lbs / 34 kg.

Engine Safety

To keep the engine from accidentally starting, SiFly eFoils have an auto-lock feature that engages as soon as it turns on and will only be deactivated when the X and F buttons are pressed, first the X, then the F.

The SiFly E has a guarded open propeller located in the rear, just beyond the stabilizer wing. Offering peace of mind for riders when falling, and for even more reassurance, the engine will automatically auto-lock as soon as the remote drops or the trigger is released.

Complete System Control

For new riders to find balance without going too fast, SiFly has a Safety Power Limit that can be activated after the board and remote are paired through the app. This safety feature limits the gears that can be used by the rider and can be adjusted to match each rider’s specific skill level.

Similarly, SiFly has a session time limit function that can be useful for rental and lesson companies to optimize their business and avoid late returns or keep the peace amongst the kids.

For the tech and spec lovers out there, understanding and monitoring the battery life and the remote’s battery is super easy, with a reading for each on the remote display and the monitoring analytics found in the SiFly app. Giving you insight into all the parameters of the board and batteries’ health, even when charging.

Add-ons / Accessories / Extras

SiFly gives you complete control over your eFoil, letting you choose from two different heights for the mast, two different wing sets, and, of course, the size of the hull. This also means that you can easily upgrade to a shorter hull since the batteries are interchangeable between all of SiFly’s eFoil models.

Besides adding on an extra battery or a spare wing set, there isn’t much else available from SiFly as far as accessories go. Except they do offer a pretty cool communication headset that is available in a bucket hat or trucker/surf cap style. It can connect up to six headsets and has long-range Bluetooth connectivity, so you can eFoil with your group and stay connected the whole time.

Competitor Comparison

Next to industry competitors at similar price points, we are sad to say that the SiFly E lacks in quality and composition in the areas where you want to see a flawless design, like the engine. We found the variations in materials, especially where the wings and engine connect, to be worrisome, as well as difficulty with attaching the wings with the included range of screws.

Compared to the slightly more expensive and smaller Fliteboard Series 3, which has a solid design and is made of dependable materials to have peace of mind when riding and after dismantling, we found the SiFly E to be lacking. The Fliteboard 3 offers a bit more customization options and an eFoil that is beginner friendly but still fun for advanced riders.

If you are looking at even lower-priced options like the Waydoo Flyer One+, it is important to consider the weight and size of the riders who will be using the watercraft. The SiFly E may be a better option for riders who are larger and heavier, thanks to its massive buoyancy. Similarly, the E is way easier for newbies.

But if size and weight aren’t on your radar, a lower-priced board like the Waydoo Flyer One+ could give you a very similar ride with a much small price tag.

If you are looking for other super stable eFoil boards, like the PWR-Foil, the SiFly E still takes the lead in buoyancy and is comparable in wing sizes, although PWR has an even larger 2000 sq cm front wing. Both boards give a similar ride, but larger riders may need help to stand up and sustain balance on the PWR-Foil.

Is It Worth It?

After testing the SiFly E and comparing it to similar industry competitors, is this eFoil board worth its price tag? It definitely could be for the right owners! Being such a sizeable eFoil board, it is a perfect option for larger and heavier riders and also for people who want to try to ride with someone else on board too. That being said, we felt that the quality of building materials and screws did not meet our standards for a board priced at €8,690 / $9,490.
