The goal at Sifly has always been to make efoiling easy and accessible. That goes for everyone including their wallets. The new Stellar board does this in a way that makes this Sifly efoil a direct competitor to the best premium boards.
We went out to Greece and met the Sifly team with their new range of Stellar efoils. This is their premium range and includes the Stellar S and Stellar R–aka Small and Regular. These two boards with improved masts and wing sets are a step up from their original S & R boards.
During the week-long session, we tested the new Stellar boards and found the intelligent design choices Sifly has taken to improve their boards not only make sense, they compete with the more established brands in the premium field.

A Step-up for Sifly
As we have previously mentioned, Sifly’s mission and vision are to create efoil boards for everyone, staying within budget but not sacrificing quality. And the latest Stellar boards do just that.
Straight away we experienced that this Stellar is definitely a step up for Sifly in terms of build quality, premium materials, and sleek design choices.
The most obvious upgrades include more carbon fiber in the build of the Stellar and the use of an integrated mast. An integrated mast is standard setup for a lot of other major efoil brands so we’re glad to see Sifly has followed suit. This mast upgrade along with its reduced weight, riding is just so much nicer.
So even though the Stellar is mid-to-high in volume, maneuverability can be extremely agile.
With a pro-Olympian kite surfer with a degree in Physics as the founder, you can tell that Sifly has someone knowledgeable behind the scenes – both in terms of riding and engineering.
There are a lot of wing options to choose from, so we could opt for a more slow and steady cruising style, which was favored by the beginners. The more intermediate riders can choose smaller wings for a more adventurous ride.
Cool Carbon Construction
Probably our favorite way that Sifly has improved from their original R and S boards is by replacing most of the previous Carbon fiber and fiberglass mix with just Carbon fiber. The Stellar boards have a light Expanded Polystyrene core (Styrofoam), which helps with the buoyancy and load capacity of the boards.
This move to increase the carbon fiber in the board means that they now weigh around 6.5-8.5 lbs (3-4 kg) less, which is a reduction of 30%! Making them lightweight is a way to ensure that they’re easier to carry to and from the water.
New & Improved
When we spoke to founder Alex, we understood that this Stellar board was the start of their next generation of boards. This board is essentially a redesign of their current R and S board but they have taken features that worked well with their other boards to ensure they produce their best efoil yet.
Premium Platform
The most obvious difference between the original R/S boards and this new Stellar is the platform, which is actually much more similar to the SiFly Rider. This Stellar has a large EVA platform which we really loved as it made climbing onto the board and moving around it much easier.
We found having some texture underfoot helped us move up and down the board in a straight line, and keep us stable.
Minimal Battery Compartment
One of our lesser favorite features on any of the efoils is when the mast installation or battery compartment is just a jungle of wires. This new Stellar board has been stripped back to basics with a much cleaner look and experience inside the battery compartment.
The lid is made from carbon fiber, cutting down on weight without compromising durability. This is also what we can see on the Aerofoil, Lift and Fliteboards too.
Integrated Mast
Another upgrade from the original R & S boards is creating a mast that integrates with the board itself. This is not a new thing by any means. The comparable Fliteboard 4 has this. Other premium companies have been doing this since day one.
This integrated mast minimizes resistance during touchdowns, which makes the riding experience smoother, which in turn creates a much better performance–it’s also easier to learn.
Additionally, an integrated mast cuts down on cavitation at higher speeds.
Another benefit is that when combined with this Stellar’s reduced weight, it makes for easier maneuverability. Our team was able to carve with precision and joy. So even though this board is a mid-range size of 98-120 liters, with similar wing sizes as the Lift 3F, we found we could cruise and change direction just as well as that more expensive model.
Remote Controller & App
The remote hand controller has a user-friendly backlit monochrome LCD display, which provides real-time information about battery status and various technical specifications. Using the controller is straightforward enough, with four intuitive buttons and a rear-mounted finger trigger.
Using the app is also pretty straightforward.
A large part of Sifly’s target audience is rental shops and you can really see that in the app. Within the app you lock your board’s distance or ride time, ensuring proper use of the efoil. Of course, this is also great for parents or if you’re sharing the board within your family and want to set certain restrictions or avoid arguments.
Battery
What enables the SiFly Stellar board to take flight is, of course, its battery. Sifly produces a smaller PowerCell ECO for 80 minutes of ride time or a larger PowerCell for 120 minutes. The ECO battery weighs less, which has its virtues too.
Unlike some companies, for example, Fliteboard, Sifly supplies the larger more powerful battery as the standard, again giving you a bit more bang for your buck.
For a reasonable 2.5 hours of charge time, this powerful battery can propel you up to 18 miles (30 kilometers). Moreover, this battery is universally compatible with all SiFly eFoil models, making it a breeze to transition to a smaller hull for a more playful experience as you progress.
Accessories
Ez-GoWith new riders and learners always in mind, Sifly created the first of its kind on the efoil market – a stabilizer! Sifly found a common problem with beginners would be that the board would rise too far out of the water, become unstable and the riders would tumble off. By clamping the Ez-Go at the bottom of our mast, just on top of the propellor system, we could basically stop that happening.
One member of our team who was running the camera is still new to efoiling and experienced the difference both with and without the stabilizer. He was able to fly almost immediately.
The Ez-Go stabilizer prevents the board from lifting its nose up and literally flying out of the water. That’s the first thing that happens when standing on an efoil for the first time.
Price/Quality Ratio
This new Stellar range is the most expensive of Sifly’s board. When compared to the rest of the market they are still a very responsibly priced board. Their original Sifly R & S is $6840 while this newer Stellar is $8950. This $2,000 markup is due mainly to the increase in carbon fiber, which everyone knows isn’t a cheap material. Many other brands, including Aerofoil and Fliteboard, use carbon fiber and their boards are still much more expensive.
For example, the 100-liter Fliteboard 3 Carbon Classic with the larger Explore battery (comparable to Sifly’s included PowerCell) is $11,500! The $2000 markup on this Sifly Stellar doesn’t seem so bad! Since this Stellar is in the mid to high range of volume sizes, they can be used by a number of different riders, whether they be different in weight or riding capability.
Do we recommend it?
We believe this Stellar board keeps with Sifly’s message of making efoiling accessible to everyone. Firstly they go up to 120L, which is ideal for someone new to efoiling. And secondly, they are cheaper than some of their competitors.
Sifly has proved that you can still produce quality products without the premium price tag. If you’re looking to get into efoiling and want a stylish board that doesn’t scream newbie (like the inflatable Flite Air) then we definitely recommend this Stellar board. Depending on your weight or capabilities, both the 120-liter R and 98-liter S are a great choice!

Frequently asked questions: Sifly Stellar eFoil
Like all Sifly boards, Stellar standard configuration comes with PowerCell LR. Most riders can expect around 100-120 minutes of ride time with the PowerCell LR. This variation of a shorter or longer time depends on the rider’s weight and wing setup.
The larger 120-liter Stellar R is stable and user-friendly so that anyone and everyone can enjoy it. Depending on your riding or water sports experience, you might be able to start on the smaller Stellar S. If you are in between boards, whether in weight or capability, you can add the Ez-Go to temporarily attach as a stabilizer as you gain confidence.
As with any kind of equipment that has been in salt water for prolonged periods, it needs to be rinsed thoroughly with fresh water. After each session, give your efoil a freshwater rinse, especially flushing water in corners and around screws, since crystallized salt can cause permanent damage.
